Migration and asylum – A European solution is necessary
Migration and Asylum are seen by many Dutch people as a major problem. My Vote Counts! The Citizens’ Initiative understands this, but understanding doesn’t bring a solution any closer. There’s largely a lot of understanding for people fleeing war, but according to many, our social security system and housing market are creaking under the strain. If asylum seekers are then also given priority when housing is allocated, that understanding suddenly diminishes considerably. My Vote Counts! The Citizens’ Initiative wants to bring decision-making power in the political process back to the citizen. The binding referendum can help find solutions and build more support.
My Vote Counts! The Citizens’ Initiative positions:
- To keep our economy running, we need labour migrants. First, we investigate whether we can’t solve it within the Netherlands. If that fails, we grant access to labour migrants in a controlled way. The right labour migrants are a prerequisite for economic growth.
- We want to admit (economic) refugees and foreign students in a sensible way. We stand for a reliable government and always respect international and European treaties.
- My Vote Counts! The Citizens’ Initiative has an eye for people in need and the more vulnerable in society. We stand for a multidisciplinary European solution.
